The Washington Post: Banning your children from Instagram won’t help keep them safe. These tips will.

“When former Facebook employee Frances Haugen testified Tuesday about the dangers of Facebook and Instagram for young children and teens, many parents may have started to think about their own rules for social media. Are we doing enough to keep teenagers safe online?

Most social media apps are open to children 13 and older, and many have become extremely popular with teen users, especially during the pandemic when traditional in-person socialization was on hold. Haugen echoed what social media critics and researchers have said for years: Social media can be addictive and toxic and has contributed to serious problems such as bullying and mental health issues.”
