About us

How and why we’re doing what we’re doing

A youth-led, peer mentoring and education program exploring the ME in media

An initiative from the Stanford Center for Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing, GoodforMEdia advocates for helping youth practice healthier ways of engaging with media. We take a nuanced approach to technology and social media’s effects on youth mental health, because we recognize it’s not black and white.

How we do it? For youth, by youth

We believe in the power of peers to influence and educate each other in positive ways. After all, the people that can best help us navigate social media effectively are those that can relate to our daily experiences, because they have been through it themselves.

Why now? To empower future generations with the tools they need to navigate social media safely and effectively.

But in our experience, there are very few youth-centered, practical ways for tweens and teens to learn how to navigate the virtual world in ways that are fun, positive, and safe. That’s why we’re here—to develop tips, tools, and resources created by young people for their peers. ☀️

A majority of teens say they use chatbots. Roughly two-thirds of teens (64%) say they ever use an AI chatbot.
